#16-Playing Craps & swimming with the sharks!

I have been to Vegas a total of 5 times. First time with an ex-boyfriend. We stayed at the MGM. Going to Vegas for the first time, well, it's mind blowing. The second time was with my husband and we went ALL OUT. We treated ourselves to shows,  expensive dinners, massages, the works! We stayed at the Venetian, it was fabulous. The third time we went for a friends wedding which was at the Wynn, which is were we stayed. Amazing, simply amazing! We went back to the Wynn again a few years later, we loved it so much. This year I was invited to meet up with some friends in Vegas. Some old friends from high school that I havent seen in 20-plus years and some new friends that I have made on facebook. They were all staying downtown Vegas. I visited there once. I wasnt very enthused about staying there but, I wanted to make the best of it.
Unfortunately, my husband couldn't get the time off so, I decided to go anyway. I stayed at the Golden Nugget. It's the nicest hotel downtown, recently remodeled. The pool was fabulous. I spent a whole day there. It had a huge shark tank and a water slide that went right through the shark tank! My cousin, Deanna and I shared a room. She decided wanted to bring her boyfriend so we all bunked together. The first night the three of us hung out at the club Gold Diggers. We had a fun time. The owner of Glitter Gultch, which is a strip club downtown on Fremont street, bought me a drink and asked me if I was single. He was hanging out with an entourage including a Kid Rock and Jack Black impersonators! The second night we had a wonderful dinner at Binions. A huge prime rib with a California Cabernet~heaven! And it was so wonderful catching up with old some friends from high school, Raeme & Kim. I really enjoyed sharing where are lives have lead us and yet we still had that bond that ties us together. There is just something about being from a small town. You know everyone, even if it is in a small way, you are connected.
The last night we had drinks at a small bar and watched a live band. We walked down to the El Cortez, my friend Raeme said they had quarter roulette tables. But, boy, did they have the rudest dealers. At least, I think they are still called 'dealers' at a roulette table maybe they are called 'spinners'.  Whatever they are called the girl was the rudest ever! After we were done playing roulette, Raeme's husband Mark offered to show me how to play Craps. I have never played before, it seems so complicated. I won my money back that I lost on roulette. Although, I am not sure that I can say I learned much, I just did what Mark told me to do.
I had a good time and maybe we will go again next year. Although, next time, I will try my best to convince them to stay on the Strip!

#2-Korean Restaurant

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. When I told my husband Joel that I was starting a blog about trying new things, the first suggestion he had was "you should try new types of food".  Of course... he would say that. I do not like trying new foods. Let me repeat that: I do not like trying new foods. Ask anyone who really knows me. I go to the same restaurants and eat the same things, over and over. My husband, on the other hand, will eat anything. No, really, I mean ANYTHING. He always says, "if I went on Survivor I would be the only contestant to gain weight". It has always mildly annoyed him that I am not more adventurous when it comes to food. Luckily, I have other positive traits that help him get over it. He suggested Korean and Indian. Our friends and family have been talking about a new Korean restaurant that recently opened....

Day 14: I LOVE Saving Money!

Since I LOVE saving money, I thought it was appropriate on Valentines Day to share some more ways we have found to do just that!!! 1) Always, always, always ask for a better deal. Open the door for negotiation. You might be surprised! Just about everything is negotiable. We have had the same CPA do our taxes every year for that past 10 years. I used to pay $250. Last year, I told him that things were tight and asked if he would be willing to reduce our fee. And since we don't have as many write offs its less paperwork for him. He agreed and reduced our fee to $175.  2) Cut and or color your own hair.  Over the summer months we bought a clipper and I would shave Joel's head. It was easy! But, I am not brave enough to cut or color my own hair. I know a lot of ladies that do. BUT, you can refer back to Item #1 above on this... I told my hairdresser and friend of over 12  years that I might have to go to the beauty school next time to afford getting my hair cut and colore...

DAY 5: I want some FREE stuff!

Back in October of last year, 2013, we adopted a a dog from a rescue shelter. He is half poodle and half cocker spaniel (between the vet, the shelter and ourselves) that is our best guess. We named him Chop. Rather my son, Leo named him Chop. He was found with 2 other dogs wandering in a field next to the shelter. I call him my scaredy-cat, bird-dog. He doesn't like crowds, he doesn't like dark men, deep voices and he doesn't like to go for walks(scaredy cat) But he loves to perch on the back of the couch and the top of the recliner(bird-dog) He is very loveable and sweet and I have been able to train him. He is my shadow and follows me everywhere, he loves to ride in the car too. The reason I am talking about my fur baby is because I did not stock up on his food and treats for No Spend February. I meant to, just didn't make it. Luckily I still had $13 on my Walmart gift card. But before I went to Wally-world I decided to check out CouponMom.com and see if they had any...
