Day 23: How did this happen?~Part 4

I guess its time to finish the story of ..How did this happen? a continuation from Days 4, 8 & 18

So....where was I? Oh yea, fired from Medifast last July 2013.
The irony was, I was complaining to my husband for weeks that I wanted to quit. Really, ever since I got written up. I imagine that they wanted me to quit but I promised my husband I would not quit unless I had another job. I had been looking with no luck. When I texted my husband that I had been fired he responded, "good,  now you don't have to quit!" I immediately applied for unemployment insurance. After a few weeks I had a phone interview and shortly after was told that my claim had been approved. I was relieved and felt a bit vindicated. They had no substantial reason for firing me. I did a good job, I was reliable, represented the company well, was promoted and counseled 75% of the centers total clients. And as with most things that seem horrible and life altering at the time, I found the silver lining and after time realized it was one of the best things that could have happened.
I decided to take a few classes at Delta Community College. At first I was exploring the idea of becoming a Psych Tech. Delta had recently received grant money to teach and certify students to become Psych Techs for the new Prison Hospital in Stockton. At first I thought it would be an exciting new challenge but, after looking into it and talking to people about it, I decided it wasn't a good fit for me. Now I am currently earning my AA with a transfer to a CSU. Concurrently I am working on getting an Early Childhood Education certification. I am considering working as a teacher and I want to start gaining experience with kids. It's a long road ahead. But I have never been happier! I love learning and it has been a life long dream to continue my education and go to college.
Not to mention I have had so much more time to spend with my family. I really enjoyed the summer with the kids. We had a great time! Plus I am available to take them to lessons and pick them up from school. And now I even take Escrima classes on Saturdays!
Recently my unemployment insurance ran out. I started working at Ann Taylor LOFT. It's my favorite clothing store and I have worked there before. It's great fun and they work around my school hours and special requests for family time or events. It is only part time and I am not in management so I am making less than what I did on unemployment.
That is where we are today. In about five years we went from spending $12,000 on bills per month to $3,000 not including food, gas, etc. Joel's job pays just enough to cover the bills and my job pays for groceries and gas. And that's it. That's how we got here. Then I decided to do the spending freeze this month because we were slipping behind and paying too many fees. Doing the spending freeze is exactly what we needed. I feel like we are on stable ground now.

#2-Korean Restaurant

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. When I told my husband Joel that I was starting a blog about trying new things, the first suggestion he had was "you should try new types of food".  Of course... he would say that. I do not like trying new foods. Let me repeat that: I do not like trying new foods. Ask anyone who really knows me. I go to the same restaurants and eat the same things, over and over. My husband, on the other hand, will eat anything. No, really, I mean ANYTHING. He always says, "if I went on Survivor I would be the only contestant to gain weight". It has always mildly annoyed him that I am not more adventurous when it comes to food. Luckily, I have other positive traits that help him get over it. He suggested Korean and Indian. Our friends and family have been talking about a new Korean restaurant that recently opened....

DAY 26, 27 & 28: The End...sort of.

Today is the last day, officially, of the spending freeze. I got a little behind last week on blogging every day so I am combining three days into one. I made a trip to the Salvation Army. They were having a sale on clothes, $1 each except on jeans. Jeans were half off. I bought 3 pairs of jeans for Leo, a sweater for myself and a cape/shawl for Annie. Total was $12. I had never been to the Salvation Army store. I much prefer Goodwill. I might go there next week, if I have time. I usually find really good stuff there for the kids.  I am very very happy that we did the spending freeze. We spent very little beyond our bills, groceries and gas. I took a hard look at what we could do to improve and took steps to make things better. Now that we have a firm grip on our spending, the goal is to stay the course. Like I said before, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. In a few months our debt will decrease by paying off our car and soon after our tax debt and then our credit card. ...

#5 Body Wrap

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. A few months ago I was at the gym. Upon entering there was a table with two young women sitting there promoting a spa package deal. I bought it, $60 for 5 different treatments including a "spot" body wrap. It also included a one hour message, facial and acupressure. My second trip to the spa I decided to do the body wrap. The only wrap I had heard about, besides the one you eat, was being wrapped up like a mummy then covered in cellophane wrap as you proceed to sit in a sauna a sweat off the pounds. That's called a compression wrap. I did not get one of those. What I got was a lot different. Vicky took me into a room with a massage table. She asked me where I would like the spot wrap done. I said "my muffin top, my stomach". She said, "that's what most ladies get done". She to...
