Day 20: Money Making Ideas

I have been talking a lot about saving money. How about we talk about making money?

1) Have a garage/yard sale. When we downsized over 1000 sq ft of home we didn't have enough room to put everything! So we had a sale. We made almost $300 in a few hours just getting rid of our old junk.

2) Sell stuff on Ebay or Craigslist. Over the years we have sold a few items on Craigslist and Ebay. The biggest item was Joel's motorcycle. It took a while, but we finally the right buyer.

3) Save your loose change. When I was a kid, there was this thing called a pay phone. You would put your change in and make a call. And on a good day, you might find a quarter in the coin return! And a quarter used to buy a whole candy bar! hahaha, I crack myself up. But seriously, save your change, it can add up quickly. Did you know that the loose change people left behind at airports in security tubs totaled more than $500,000 in one year? Wow!

4) Recycling. Taking your aluminum, plastic and glass to the local recycling center pays. Aluminum cans are $1.85 per pound currently. Our son, Leo keeps them separate and bags them up. We pay him a portion of the money earned. I'd rather our family get the money than the strange Asian lady that goes through the recycle can on trash day!

5) Cash in your gold or silver. We did this a couple of years ago. I dug into my jewelry box and cashed in the items I haven't worn in years. I even found some silver coins that a company I worked for gave us. They were like challenge coins. It had the goal for the company in sales dollars and the year. I had 4 of them. I was surprised how much they were worth!

These are just a few ideas, feel free to share if you have some great ideas too. I would love to hear them!

The save your coin is great. We have a coin jar at homeand every so oftem we need the money for something and it always seems to be the right amount. Like yesterday Ray and I Decide that we need to rent some chairs and a couoke tables for Ridges Birthday but we were already at our budget that we made so I counted up the change and It was only 1.20 short of what we needed for the rental. Yay!
That's awesome Debra. Our coins have saved us in a pinch too! I remember my mom had a gigantic coin glass jug and we were always putting our change in it. I also remember rolling it up to turn into the bank. Now that there is Coinstar, if your willing to pay someone else to add up the change and turn it into dollars. p.s. Happy Birthday to Ridge! :-)

#2-Korean Restaurant

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. When I told my husband Joel that I was starting a blog about trying new things, the first suggestion he had was "you should try new types of food".  Of course... he would say that. I do not like trying new foods. Let me repeat that: I do not like trying new foods. Ask anyone who really knows me. I go to the same restaurants and eat the same things, over and over. My husband, on the other hand, will eat anything. No, really, I mean ANYTHING. He always says, "if I went on Survivor I would be the only contestant to gain weight". It has always mildly annoyed him that I am not more adventurous when it comes to food. Luckily, I have other positive traits that help him get over it. He suggested Korean and Indian. Our friends and family have been talking about a new Korean restaurant that recently opened.

#5 Body Wrap

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. A few months ago I was at the gym. Upon entering there was a table with two young women sitting there promoting a spa package deal. I bought it, $60 for 5 different treatments including a "spot" body wrap. It also included a one hour message, facial and acupressure. My second trip to the spa I decided to do the body wrap. The only wrap I had heard about, besides the one you eat, was being wrapped up like a mummy then covered in cellophane wrap as you proceed to sit in a sauna a sweat off the pounds. That's called a compression wrap. I did not get one of those. What I got was a lot different. Vicky took me into a room with a massage table. She asked me where I would like the spot wrap done. I said "my muffin top, my stomach". She said, "that's what most ladies get done". She to

#8 Seattle-Part 3 (The Master at work, more eating and Lakeview cemetery)

This a blog about trying new things. Reaching beyond my comfort zone, exploring and making the most of life. My goal is to try 52 new things. One per week for a year. After our wonderful day at the market and the museum we went back to our hotel to rest. Our last night in Seattle we headed to a suburb called Northgate. Joel had made arrangements to give a seminar at MKG www. mkgseattle .com where Bahala Na Escrima has a growing and loyal following. So...for those of you who don't know yet, my husband Joel is also known as Master Joel Juanitas.  He is a Master in the Bahala Na Filipino Martial Arts Association www.bahalana.org that teaches Giron Escrima Arnis. Escrima is a Filipino weapon-based fighting system utilizing the stick, knife or improvised weapon. It is his passion and he trains students every week. He has been a practitioner since he was in high school. Only two blocks away from where Joel grew up lived an Escrima Grand Master, Leo Giron (our son's namesake). L
